The Partnership:

The city partnership with Gabrovo, an industrial city in the heart of the Bulgarian Stara Planina, has been in existence since 1996.
Thun and Gabrovo signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in 2001, and coordination offices for the partnership projects were set up in Gabrovo and in Thun. The Förderverein (Friends of) Thun-Gabrovo was set up in the same year, which provides financial and moral support to both city project and its own projects.

Cooperation:

The City of Thun and the Förderverein Thun-Gabrovo agree the respective partnership projects that will be supported in Gabrovo or in Thun with each other. The maxim here is: Cultural exchange on an equal footing – development cooperation projects on the principle of "Help to help yourself".

Supported projects:

The relationships and the exchange between the two cities take place at a number of different levels: computer training courses in various areas (social, cultural, administration), cultural exchanges, projects with special schools in Gabrovo and other Non-Government Organisations, material and vehicle transport and much more.
