Aarefeld

With around 550 inhabitants, the Aarefeld is the smallest district of Thun, and is largely located along the railway line and the ship canal. There are various service industry operations in Aarefeld, but there are also attractive apartments. It is an ideal district for people who like to be near the centre.

There are two small islands in the Aare above Aarefeld. The "Villa Julia", built in 1887, stands on the lower island, while the upper island – the "Kleist Island" - received its name from the poet Heinrich von Kleist, who lived and worked on the island in the years 1802 and 1803. Other landmarks include the Bahnhofplatz, the Aarefeldplatz, the Schiffländte, the «Selve» and the «Emmi» site.
