Dürrenast
The Dürrenast district is like a city within the city, and is home to around 8,500 residents.
In addition to the numerous attractions, the attractive residential area and the family neighbourhood structures that characterise this district, the Dürrenast district is also an important lifeline for the city of Thun: Shopping centres of all kinds, leisure and sport facilities, numerous commercial business, including the hotel and hospitality industry, educational institutions and the Thun Lake Festival are all part of the Dürrenast-Leist area.
There are also attractions that are known well beyond the region, such as the Scherzlig Church, Schadau Castle with the adjacent Schadau Park and the Thun-Panorama. It is also the district with the longest shoreline.
The Lachen Canal with the harbour and the Strandbad Thun (lake-side beach) and the new KKThun, the Thun Culture and Congress Centre that was opened in the spring of 2011, are additional features of this district.
