Goldiwil

The former municipality of Goldiwil started immediately in front of the city, adjacent to Lauenen and Hofstetten, and extended up to Multenegg. The Grüsisbergwald thereby formed the boundary between «Goldiwil Nid dem Wald» and «Goldiwil Ob dem Wald».

In 1900, two-thirds of the residents of Goldiwil lived in the lower part of the municipality. They felt themselves economically and culturally linked to the City of Thun, and wanted to be merged with it. Goldiwil has belonged to the City of Thun since 1913 (1.1.1913).

The former «Goldiwil Ob dem Wald» is the sun parlour of the City of Thun. Its landmarks include, among others, the gymnasium with the sloping football pitch as a work of art on its roof, the former Hotel Jungfrau and the Goldiwiler Egg – the highest point of Thun at 1,172 metres above sea level.

Around 1,100 persons currently live in the Leistgebiet Goldiwil. The function of the Ortsleist is thereby exercised by the school community of Goldiwil, which has remained independent up to today.

The view of the mountains and the lake is breathtaking in this district – an ideal residential and living space for people for whom nature is important, but who still want to live close to the urban infrastructure.
