City centre (Innenstadt)
In addition to the main shopping streets Bälliz» und «Obere Hauptgasse», the area that is summarised as the ”City Centre” also includes the residential buildings up to the northern boundary of the city, where it seamlessly merges into the municipal area of the neighbouring municipality Steffisburg.
The old town apartments on the Schlossberg and in the rest of the old town, which have great charm and attraction, are also part of the same Leistgebiet.
In addition to the many attractions that the historic old town has to offer, there is one additional special attraction: The «Shopping Island (Einkaufsinsel) Bälliz», around both sides of which the Aare has been flowing since 1722, and which is linked to the mainland by several bridges. A veritable paradise for strolling, shopping and indulging in «savoir vivre».
