Chutziturm Tower
The Chutziturm Tower was built by the Zähringer around 1250. From 1384 until the fall of Old Bern in 1798, the tower was used by the Bernese Schulthessen for various purposes – among others, as a prison.
It was built at the foot of the Schlossberg at the north-west corner of the city fortifications of Thun. It was originally open on the city side. Today’s installation originates from the 18th century.
Today, the Chutziturm and the associated Chutzistube are used and rented out by the Stadtschützen and the Männerchor Thun for events.
The Chutziturm Tower is situated on the Burgstrasse, close to the Berntor roundabout.
