Mühleplatz
Where flour was once milled is now one of the most attractive summer meeting places in the heart of the City of Thun.
Corn was ground into flour on the Mühleplatz in Thun until the 70’s of the 20th century. The City took over the site on the Aare in the 1980’s. The demolition of the old mill buildings was approved in the 90’s and the redesign of the square was started.
From 1994 onwards, the attractive square, which lies between the Bälliz shopping street and the old town of Thun, directly on the Aare, has become a lively place to meet and stroll about. Numerous cafés and restaurants, trees and terracing down towards the banks of the Aare, as well as the sculpture of the Solothurn artist Schang Huter, give the square its own inimitable character.
