Scherzligen Church
The church was first mentioned in 762. Today’s church tower, which was originally free-standing, hints at the existence of a pre-Romanesque church from the 9th century. The rebuilding of the church probably took place in the 12th century. Around 1370/80, a Gothic polygonal chancel was built on the site of the chancel with paintings in the "Soft Style. A sacristy was also added in the 14th century.
The Romanesque nave was raised in 1463 and a uniform roof was built over the nave and the pilgrim’s house. The Scherzlig Church contains significant paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries and was an important place of pilgrimage until the Reformation in 1528.
Because of its unique atmosphere and marvellous acoustics, classical concerts take place regularly in the Scherzligen Church.
