Thun-Panorama
The Thun Panorama painting by Marquard Wocher is the oldest surviving circular panorama in the world. With its impressive dimensions - 7.5 metres high and 38 metres long - it is located in a rotunda in the Schadau Park.
The Basle artist Marquard Wocher sketched the 360° picture in 1809 sitting on a roof in the middle of the old town of Thun. Today’s oil painting was finished in 1814, without the help of an assistant,.
Even today, the unusual perspective of the artist still allows the public an intimate look into the living rooms, classrooms and streets of yesteryear. More than 300 figures are reproduced in the painting - in everyday situations.
