Thunerhof

The Thunerhof was built in 1875 as a Grand Hotel by the Thin Building Association (Baugesellschaft Thun) according to the plans of Adolphe Tièche from Bern.
It is a powerful, clearly designed hotel building in the French Neo-Renaissance form with a dominating tower. The stair hall is also well worth seeing, with its galleries and the light well in the interior of the building.

The hotel was closed in 1934, and the Thunerhof has been the seat of the Thun City Administration since 1942. The Kunstmuseum Thun has been located on the ground floor since 1948, together with the Café Thunerhof, and has gained international acclaim through its well attended exhibitions of contemporary art.
