Venner-Zyroturm
The tower was built around 1250 as a defensive tower during the first expansion of the city by the Kyburgs. Today’s building probably originates from the 15th century. The building has been known as the «Venner-Zyros Garden Tower» since the 17th century.
The characteristic feature of the Venner-Zyroturm Tower is its pentagonal floor plan, which is built up from quarry stone and boulders. The corners are made from tuff blocks, and the building is crowned by slightly protruding crenulations above a blind arcade.
Its keyhole loopholes arte also preserved. It was originally open on the town side and has various defensive platforms. It was later converted into a residential tower (current appearance).
The installation was renovated in 1980 and can now be rented from the Offiziersgesellschaft Thun (Officers’ Association of Thun)for meetings and events.
